Investing in a good kitchen remodel is a great idea if you want to increase the value of your home or just create a space that you and your family
can enjoy together for years to come. However it can be a huge inconvenience to be kicked out of your kitchen for several weeks or months while you
are having your kitchen redone. Here are 5 tips to help you survive a kitchen remodel.
Plan Your Budget Well
Don't forget that during your kitchen remodel you might be forced to eat out more than normal. In addition to hectic schedules, life and remodeling you
might not feel like cooking and just want to eat out. Include a dining out budget in your initial remodel so you don't have to worry about it.
Set Up a Temporary Kitchen
Plan to set up a temporary kitchen space while your kitchen is being remodeled. Try to use a space that already has a sink to make it more convenient.
Ask your contractor to place some of your old cabinets and/or counter tops in your temporary space. Try to stay as organized as possible in your new
space by labeling containers and making a place for everything. It's easy to get lazy when you are under stress but do your best to prepare for that
stress to make the process as enjoyable as possible.
If you have the opportunity to use a large freezer during the remodel, take some time to prepare meals ahead of time and freeze for later. Buy items that
you can thaw and cook in the microwave, or on a personal grill that you can plug in.
Track Your Progress
Remember that remodels can many times feel like they are taking longer than the time budgeted for especially when you have to be a little uncomfortable
during the process. Keep a calendar and take a lot of before and after pictures to help you stay motivated during the process.
Take this opportunity to visit with friends and family for dinner. Schedule dinners ahead of time so that they coincide with your remodeling schedule.
Let your friends and family know that you will even bring all of the ingredients to cook in their kitchen. Take the time to enjoy your meals in different
ways. Enjoy picnics, barbecues, roasts. Get creative!
